Firing method

The wood firing method of a Wilmont wood stove differs from that of a conventional wood stove in a few ways.

USE OF THE MAIN DOOR

You use the main door of a Wilmont stove only for lighting and cleaning the stove. This is the round door to the main combustion chamber. Once the stove burns, you close the door and the door also stays closed.

FIRESIDE POKING

Because the stove door remains closed while burning, you cannot poke the wood fire in the traditional way. Nor is this necessary, as the fire regulates itself.

USE OF THE WOOD

The wood you use in the Wilmont wood stove is the same as in a conventional wood stove. As with other stoves, the wood should not be too wet. The moisture content should be between 12 and a maximum of 20 per cent.

As with a conventional stove, heavy timbers burn longer than light timbers. Light wood such as willow or birch will burn out faster, but thanks to the automatic feed there is always the right amount of fuel in the combustion chamber for a nice constant fire.

The logs can also be longer than normal, as long as they fit in the tubes.
